Warehousing is an essential aspect of many commercial enterprises

Its main aim is to ensure that assets, whether products, materials, or machinery, are safe and protected. This makes the choice of structure critical.
We have completed several projects for Mainfreight across New Zealand over the years as they continue to expand their operations. A recent one was at their Palmerston North branch, where their existing building is often at capacity, and they needed an overflow storage area.

A SmartShelter was a quick and easy solution to their problem. With no foundations required, containers were placed on the sides, ballast was added to the containers, and the shelter was quickly installed. The shelter is open at one end adjacent to their existing building and closed at the other end with a steel roller door. This provides excellent weather protection and security.

With a clear span of 18m wide x 18.3m long, it provides 329m3 of additional sheltered space. The blue-painted containers, in their company colours, perfectly complement the existing building.

Benefits

The main advantages of a SmartShelter compared to a traditional steel shed:

  • It is quick and cost-effective to construct.
  • The white SmartShield® fabric lets in natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting.
  • Our wide spans mean a large area is covered without any internal supports, maximising movement and useable space.
  • The SmartShield® fabric cladding reflects harmful UV light, creating a more pleasant temperature inside the shelter. It is naturally cool in summer and warm in winter, reducing the need for seasonal heating and cooling equipment.
  • It can easily be relocated if needed.
