What are the advantages and disadvantages of a dome barn?

Dome barns are used for a specific purpose – to provide basic protection to any items stored within them. They are quick and easy to construct and move, they can provide protection against extreme conditions, and they are relatively cost-effective when compared to more permanent shelters. But these advantages can become disadvantages if a dome barn is utilised in a situation that it perhaps shouldn’t be. If you need a particularly large or more permanent shelter, for example, a traditional shed construction will be a wiser choice.

    What is the best commercial dome building?

    If you’re looking for a fast, cost-effective, simple and adaptable solution to your farm storage needs, dome barns are the best solution.

    Do dome barns need consent?

    Dome barns are simple and often temporary constructions used for storage. So do you need a building consent in order to construct one on your property?

    The short answer is it’s best to check. Generally speaking, gaining building consent is the rule rather than the exception, so it’s wise to assume you might. There do however exist a number of exemptions that may apply to a dome barn construction, including:

    Can I put dome barns on containers?

    Yes, a SmartShelters dome barn can be either mounted directly on the ground or, if you require extra height, on top of containers. Due to their design, Dome barns are only suited to be mounted on the ground. SmartShelters’ commercial structures include options for container mounting.

    What foundations do dome barns have?

    SmartShelters dome barns can be mounted directly into the earth using waratah ground anchors, into a concrete foundation using concrete bolts, or on top of containers if extra height is required.

    What colours do dome barns come in?

    SmartShelters dome barns are available with white or dark green roof cover membranes.

    What fabrics are our dome barns?

    Our fabrics are super strength high grade PE coated and are specifically designed for the NZ environment.

    We have a 12 year warranty with high snow and high wind ratings, high UV protection and excellent light transmission.

    What sizes are dome barns?

    SmartShelters offer dome barns in three standard widths, each of which comes in three different lengths:
